Description

Green Bay Oncology is a locally based, private oncology practice that partners with hospital systems in northeast Wisconsin and Michigan's upper peninsula to provide exceptional care and cancer treatment to patients throughout the region. We are currently looking for a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) to add to our team. Play an important role in the patient-experience by assessing and managing patients in a true care-centered clinic environment.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing primary care services, including assessing and managing patients in the clinic following established standards and practices. This person performs and/or coordinates patient care in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare providers along the continuum of care. The APP demonstrates advanced practice skills through assessment, diagnosis and treatment of complex patients in area of an oncology specialty. The position requires advanced knowledge where discretion and judgment is utilized daily.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Writes orders related to prescriptions, chemotherapy, fluids or supplemental medication, transfusions, and hospital admission.
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Ensures test results are obtained and physician is aware of results.
  • Recommends therapeutic plan specific to diagnosis, primary chemotherapy and management of acute symptoms related to disease or treatment.
  • Interprets and integrates data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan.
  • Pursuant to physician's evaluation, provides patient education regarding side effects, treatment plans, disease progression, prognosis and treatment options.
  • Responds to questions regarding oncology services provided and refers to physician when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  • Instructs patient/family regarding medications and treatments. Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  • Communicates with and refers patients to social and nutritional services, research staff and outside providers, including home care agencies.
  • Provides complete documentation according to practice and coding guidelines.
  • Manages medical emergencies.
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.
  • Perform hospital rounds as directed by physician.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations to give and evaluate patient care
  • Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  • Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Current Certification or Licensure as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
  • At least one year of Advanced Practice Provider experience preferably in primary care, family practice or internal medicine; or relevant oncology nursing experience prior to becoming an Advanced Practice Provider
  • Experience in an Oncology setting preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Occasionally lift up 10 lbs.
  • Frequently stand; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms
  • Requires close visual acuity, and ability to speak and hear are required.
  • Occasionally sit, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Work is generally performed in an exam room setting and office
  • Evening and/or weekend work; extended hours and irregular shifts may be required
  • Occasionally works under stress in an emergency situation.
