Dr. Alex Starr was nine years old when his family came to the United States from the former Soviet Union. They settled in Chicago and in 1987 he became a naturalized citizen.

For Alex, medicine is not just a profession; it’s a lifelong devotion. From the outset, he never envisioned a different path, and his commitment has only deepened with time. His joy in the profession lies in the dynamic patient interactions and the perpetual evolution of treatments, reflecting a dedication to staying at the forefront of advancements.

Alex is blessed with a supportive partner, Norma, an experienced chemotherapy nurse, researcher, and cancer navigator. Together, they navigate the complexities of oncology, enriching both his professional and personal life. Norma’s insights help Alex bridge the gap between the science of cancer care and its human dimensions, making him a better person and doctor.
